Potty Training from Birth is also known as elimination communication (EC), having a Diaper Free Baby or going nappy free. I have met lots of mothers who think potty training from birth makes a lot of sense – it is the way things are done in many countries, and indeed is what our grandmothers often did, though they didn’t even realize it. My own Grandma held each of her 7 babies over a bucket to wee and poo about 10 minutes after a feed or if they ate something. She did it to save on nappy or diaper washing. You can do it for the same reason, and discover a whole new way to communicate with your little baby in this gentle, responsive way.

Elimination Communication is a truly baby-led approach to hygiene that results in a massive reduction in reliance on diapers or nappies over many months, in fact two years. So, yes, it is a gradual process – not a sprint to the finish!
Investing the time is very worthwhile for the many benefits it offers you and your baby. Imagine only seldom changing a poopy diaper – that is what EC meant for us – and I am SO GLAD we raised our baby this way!! Changing nappies or diapers soon became a thing of the past. Wet things were easy to chuck in the washing. Poos went in the loo with EC.

Elimination Communication with a Newborn is also known as EC, having a Diaper Free Baby or going nappy free. I’ve found elimination communication with a newborn baby was a lifesaver for me with my two babies. Many times their wriggling and grizzling was a natural signal that they needed my help to ‘go’. By helping them, they experienced much faster relief, and there was a lot less crying going on.
EC is not about getting everything in the potty, as that is impossible. Practicing elimination communication with a newborn baby is about helping your baby, and connecting with them. It’s actually a lot of fun, something you do when it occurs to you in the early days, when baby just will not seem to relax…

Potty Training Your Baby is also known as EC, Elimination Communication, having a Diaper Free Baby or Infant Potty Training. Potty training your baby may seem like a bizarre concept, but not when you realize it is a gentle, nurturing approach to baby hygiene, nothing like using charts and stickers and expectations. Instead, it is a way to help keep your baby comfortable, to offer them a ‘potty break’ when they are fussing, only to discover they just needed a good poop!
