Elimination Communication: Potty Songs to Sing With Your EC Baby!

POTTY SONGS: Making Elimination Communication Easier.

Singing fun songs and rhymes is a popular activity to add to your ‘potty breaks’. I love them! They are FUN! They can become another tool for your EC Toolbox.

Read on for great inspiration for EC Songs, Ditties, Rhymes and Cheers!

“When a thing is funny, search it carefully for a hidden truth.”

George Bernard Shaw (1856 – 1950)

Consider these 12 likely benefits of singing potty songs and using potty cheers:

  1. Helps your baby to relax to go, your warm friendly voice is soothing…
  2. Keeps baby, (and you) entertained as baby does their business…
  3. Aids you in being ‘mindful’; living in the moment with your child…
  4. Assists in helping your baby transition from when they signal a need until arriving at the potty place, (on the way to the bathroom!)
  5. A bright and interactive cue, reminding them it is potty time, letting you know if they start to sing it, even being a ‘sound’ reminder if you notice signs they need to go and want to draw attention to the potty in a subtle way to encourage self-initiation.
  6. Helps others – siblings, grandparents & carers assist baby with ease as baby relaxes with and knows the songs are for fun…
  7. Offers your child appropriate language to recognise and later communicate their need to go…
  8. An opportunity to practise sign language with the songs…
  9. A modelling activity you can do with toys to practice toilet skills.
  10. Makes going to the toilet (and simply EC’ing) a normal everyday activity with your bright positive approach…
  11. A way to add interest and cooperative play to avoid or minimize a potty pause.
  12. A celebration of your connection when yet another pee goes in the pot!

WOW! I’ll bet you are keen to increase your singing, so here’s some inspiration to get you going!

All of these ultra cute songs, potty cheers and rhymes made up by parents practicing elimination communication with their babies.

Let’s Go to the Potty

You must dance, and sometimes lift him in the air as you make your way to the potty singing:

“Let’s go to the potty. Potty, potty, potty.
We’re going to the potty. Potty, potty, potty.
Pee, pee in the potty. Potty, potty, potty.
(Baby’s) going to the potty. Potty, potty, potty”…etc. (whatever comes to mind) and then of course, upon a tinkle..

“(Baby’s) peed in the potty. Potty, potty, potty.” …etc.
We sing the latter in the mirror and dip and dance our way back to wherever. He get’s quite tickled by the whole process.

There’s no real tune to our potty songs. I wrote it out as rhythmically as I could. (We also go up a half step with each line) It’s usually accompanied by us twirling, clapping and dancing. A true celebration.

Here’s another:

Baby Peed On The Potty!

“(Baby) peed/pooped on the pot-ty, potty, potty, pot-ty.
(Baby) peed/pooped on the pot-ty, potty, potty, pot-ty.”
From here it can stop/fade out to applause or we continue with the
button ending of,
“’cause that’s where pee pee/poop poop goes.”

(With thanks to Twinkle, Mom to Ezra)

Elmo’s ‘Potty Time’ Song

Visit this YouTube about Elmo’s Dad singing a potty song.
(With thanks to Nicole for finding this Potty Song!)
– and then I went looking for some more…

More Potty Song Videos:

Looking up ‘Potty Songs’ on YouTube can be *a bit scary*, and certainly scanning the added comments is quite eyebrow raising, so I’ve picked out three for you so you don’t have to see the dodgy ones!
The first two are fun, I’d recommend having a listen to them.

The Potty Song – Quite lovely, a father sings their ‘potty song’ with his kids complete with cue sounds, like ‘psssshhh’.
The Potty Song – This one is fun, by Miss Scherling – a music teacher.
Once Upon a Potty The quality a bit poor, I get the idea it’s an old one, but there are some catchy lyric ideas in parts and lots of little kids climbing on potties… (Neither would I call it a ‘hilarious, must see’ video)
