Infant Potty Training is also known as Elimination Communication, having a Diaper Free Baby or going nappy free.

Infant potty training is a term used to describe an ancient, gentle approach to baby hygiene involving observing your baby, noticing signals they make before weeing and pooing, and anticipating their need to go by removing their nappy or diaper and offering them the change to relieve themselves in a potty, the toilet, even a simple bucket. Saves you washing that nappy.

When baby goes, you’d make a ‘cue’ sound, like ‘sss’, which they can begin to remember at future opportunities, and can then go ‘on cue’. It’s as simple as that, but of course more complex, as a baby is not a robot to program! Infant potty training is thus another option to fold into your day – perhaps at each diaper change you will offer baby a potty break as you sing a potty song and smile at them. Make sure the potty is warm or they may get spooked, though!
